How does prevention work?

For the last 25 years, our decision makers have invested billions upon billions in mental health and the rates of mental health conditions have not changed. We now sit in the wake of COVID waiting for another wave of people affected by the distress and disruption mental health conditions cause, and we’re not ready.

But we can be.

The unprecedented events of 2020, though challenging, have demonstrated that there is a gap in the mental health support spectrum - at the point before things start to get bad.

COVID was the wakeup call we needed to start our revolution. And now we are awake, it’s time to create a better, more resilient society; a society that is prepared for these huge challenges before they arrive.

To do this we need a new focus on mental wellness, compassion and meeting people’s basic need for structures that support that wellness in their everyday lives.

Prevention United is bringing people together to write this next chapter in how we do mental health in this country. We’re uniting the nation and the sector to make the big changes that need to happen in how society is run and how it looks after its people.

It’s about looking at wellness through a range of prisms: from boosting financial security to fostering a sense of belonging, to liberating people from experiences of violence and abuse to fairness and equality.

Each day we’re working directly with people to arm them with the knowledge and skills to protect their mental wellbeing in the face of the challenges they’re facing.

We know what needs to be done. Now is the time to do it.

Join with us. Join the prevention revolution.
